Source en Español o InglesPublished June 6, 2024 Covid again. Coughs, masks, laziness, sneezing. In offices, in conversations, in medical consultations, also in hospitals (to a lesser extent). Infections have been rising for just over a month, in a summer rebound that is beginning to recur. They are inevitable oscillations of a virus that has been incorporated into the list of common diseases of humanity. The good news is that it seems increasingly milder, similar to a cold or flu, most of the time. With buts: The very elderly and vulnerable remain at risk, and they and those around them should increase precautions. The latest report on respiratory diseases from the National Center for Epidemiology, published this Thursday, shows a clear increase in infections in the previous week and confirms an acceleration in the last two. The estimated incidence thanks to the sentinel health centers - which are a representative sample to calculate infections - has gone from 57.7 to 74.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Two weeks ago it was at 33.5. The percentage of positive tests in health centers for those with compatible symptoms also increases, from 12.5% to 17.1%. Rodrigo Abad, a family doctor from the Spanish Society of Primary Care Physicians (Semergen), has verified this increase in his own practice, as has happened in those of colleagues with whom he has spoken. “Many people who go to Primary Care think they have allergies due to the increase in pollens, but in reality some of these cases are covid,” he warns.
