Covid-19 infections continue to rise, including deaths and intubations - Published April 7, 2024
SARS-CoV2 infections continue to rise in Greece, based on the weekly report of the National Public Health Organization (EODY) for June 24-30, including related deaths and intubations.
Although the number of hospitalizations for Covid-19 was lower on June 24-30, at 472, lower than the previous week of 487 and higher than the weekly median for the last four weeks, at 300 (in June 24-30, 2023, they were 182).
For the week, there were 5 new intubations, while the total number of patients hospitalized with Covid-19 and intubated are 8. The median weekly for the last four weeks was 3, and for the same week in 2023, 4.
A total of 22 people died on June 24-30 from Covid-19. During the last four weeks, the median weekly was 8, and for the same week in 2023, 18.
The most common sub-variant of BA.2.86 is still JN.1. Sampling of viral load in urban waste from 6 out of 10 areas showed a rise in the SARS-CoV-2 virus, a drop in 1, and no change in 3.
Other findings
Influenza-like illnesses, regardless of pathogen, remained low (per 1,000 visits), as did Severe Acute Respiratory Infection, regardless of pathogen.
The influenza (flu) cases remained high in the community and in hospitals, according to official data. No new cases required hospitalization at ICUs, nor was there a laboratory-confirmed flu case.
In terms of Respiratory syncytial virus, there was no positive result in testings in the community or in hospitals.
