Report – Sudden Outbreak of 8 Possible Bird Flu Cases in Missouri - Published Sept 30, 2024If bird flu isn't already on your radar in Missouri, perhaps it should be now. There are now reports that a sudden outbreak of 8 possible bird flu cases have occurred in Missouri. The website Medical Express has some alarming news about what's happening in Missouri right now with bird flu cases. They describe it as a "cluster of 8 possible human bird flu cases now reported in Missouri". They say possible because the official test results of 8 individuals with symptoms have yet to be shared. The other aspect of this that is causing much concern is it could mean some of the first human-to-human spreading of bird flu in America. By the way, this is not just some random report, but based off of an alert from the CDC on September 27, 2024. They have an entire section devoted to the Missouri case or cases. Here are their exact words so I'm not mischaracterizing this. NOTE: I have bolded the interesting number shared. "One of these workers was in the higher risk category and provided a blood specimen for H5 antibody testing. Three of these workers are among 94 workers who were exposed to the hospitalized case of avian influenza A(H5) after droplet precautions were instituted" I have to wonder how many (if any) of those 94 exposed workers will be tested?
