I've seen several posts saying that novavax has better longevity/more efficacy, but the review papers I've read indicate that it's less "efficient" or is comparable to the mRNA options, just with fewer side effects. I haven't found sources here that clarify (especially the longevity aspect), and I was wondering if I'm looking in the wrong place? I can only search one missed at a time, so maybe I missed it 😕
Thanks for any help! Trying to decide if it's with the drive for novavax vs the grocery store clinic.

The efficacy that they measure for most of those comparison studies is peak antibody titers for specific strains. It's scientific cherry picking. Anyone who knows about how immune memory works and is aware of the quick-fading and hyper-specific immune effects of the mRNA vaccines will tell you that this is a good measure for right now. A recent study shows that mRNA vaccines do not preserve themselves as effectively in our immune memory, but protien-based vaccines for covid do not have the same issue. There's also the issue of covid's genetic drift: Unless we get a massively mutated strain suddenly spreading all over, it's likely this winter's strains will be direct descendants of the JN.1 strain novavax targets. The mRNA vaccines are going after the KP lineage which is more loosely related and dying out more quickly than strains like XEC. Basically, it's like choosing between slightly lower peak protection for a longer immune plateau and additional lasting protection (cemented by further doses of novavax) or the quick and dirty boom-bust immune effects of the mRNA vaccines. Personally, I'll choose long, broad protection over quick and dirty. The mRNA vaccines were an excellent tool when we had nothing else, and science is showing that they are good for those first forays into preventing serious illness. That's all they really do, though, and they only do it for about 3 months. I'm gonna add a few studies and a twitter thread for your perusal. threadreaderapp.com/thread/1821552971110383622.htmlwww.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2107659www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2116185jamanetwork.com/journals/jamanetworkopen/fullarticle/2804216There's a lot more out there, and the guy from the twitter thread is a good place to start looking since he talks about it often and cites multiple sources. Sorry I can't be more help right now.

I also want to say, it's less of a single "EUREKA" source and more of several years worth of persistent study and expert analysis, so finding the proof you want/need will take a little bit of digging.

Thank you, this is helpful for me to at least acquaint myself with the vocabulary to research further. I appreciate it!
