After weeks of climbing, COVID-19 cases see slight retreat: Coronavirus update for Thursday, Sept. 5
CLEVELAND, Ohio β After 13 consecutive weeks of climbing, the number of new COVID-19 cases in Ohio dipped slightly this week, from 10,418 last week to 10,295 this week, the state reported Thursday.
Last week, the number of new cases broke the 10,000-mark for the first time since January.
At this same time last year, the state reported just over 8,000 cases.
The state has paused updating the number of Ohioans who have received the one-dose COVID-19 vaccine until Sept. 19. This is due to the new updated vaccines that have been recommended for use during the upcoming respiratory virus season.
The COVID-19 vaccine dashboard is being updated βto reflect the number of Ohioans who have reported to have received the 2024-25 vaccine,β Ohio health officials said.
The total COVID-19 case count since early 2020 in Ohio has reached 3,817,787.
There were 258 Ohioans newly hospitalized in the last week, raising the total since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 to 153,540. A total of 13 people were admitted into the ICU, raising the total since 2020 to 15,878.
The state health department reported an additional 13 deaths from COVID-19, raising the total to 44,159. Death reporting sometimes lags by weeks.
