North Country hospital employees required to wear masks as COVID-19 rates increase - Published Sept 3, 2024Employees at the University of Vermont Health Network in northern New York are being required to wear masks once again as COVID-19 rates begin to increase. Officials from Alice Hyde Medical Center and Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital announced Tuesday that all employees will be required to wear masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Patients and visitors are also recommended to voluntarily mask up to help lower infection rates. Hospital officials said the guidance was put in place as COVID-19 rates are on the rise in both Franklin and Clinton counties, and both hospitals have seen rising rates of employee infections. The new guidance is effective immediately. Employees will also be required to wear eye protection when in patient rooms, exam rooms and while providing patient care. CVPH instituted a similar policy last year as COVID-19 rates rose in late September. Free masks are available at the entrances of both hospitals and visitors who have tested positive are urged to refrain from visiting the hospital for 10 days after their diagnosis.
