Kazakhstan records rise in pneumonia cases - Published Aug 14, 2024 (Report mentions covid) AKIPRESS.COM - Kazakhstan has seen a rise in pneumonia cases, Tengrinews.kz reports citing data from the Ministry of Health. In the first six months of 2024, Kazakhstan reported 49,704 pneumonia cases, a 19.2% increase compared to the same period last year. For comparison, there were 123,910 cases in 2023, with 40,144 reported in the first half of the year. Regarding COVID-19 mutations, the Ministry noted that the dominant strain in Kazakhstan, as globally, is the Omicron JN.1 variant. Recent genetic studies show the following proportions: JN.1.13 — 61%, JN.1.18 — 22%, and JN.1 — 8.7%. The Ministry assured that the JN.1 strain does not pose an increased risk to public health and does not lead to more severe illness despite its high contagiousness.
