Hello,
My daughter told me the swim test is coming up on Tuesday. I understand the reason behind the test and agree that it’s a good idea that all graduates know how to swim, but I have a concern.
We are both very vulnerable to Covid-19 and do not, under any circumstance, remove our masks indoors. Los Angeles is currently in a huge surge, which is increasing day by day as school starts across the county. At least one in 37 people has it right now and whether you realize it or not, the consequences of a level 3 biohazard which is a syncytial virus is devastating. SARS-2 is airborne which is why wearing her mask is extremely important.
_____ has disabilities which put her at more risk of Long Covid than some kids. Long Covid is recognized by the OCR and the OSERS as a disability under section 504 and the IDEA.
_____ will not be participating in the swim test at school since the pool is indoors. We are requesting a formal accommodation according to the ADA and recommendations under the CDC that people take precautions during Covid surges.
The _____ Park has an aquatic center with an outdoor pool. _____ took lessons there when she was younger. They can assess her.
In addition, I’d like to urge you to make sure teachers have their air purifiers running on high at all times, and encourage them to open doors or windows. Not only do we want our kids safe from devastating viruses, clean air with low CO2 levels helps them learn too.
