Guelph General Hospital and Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health have declared a COVID-19 outbreak in the hospital’s in-patient unit on the west-end of the fifth floor, as of Tuesday, July 30.
According to Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health, when two or more people with a common epidemiological link (within a specific area, unit, floor or ward) test positive for COVID-19 it’s considered a confirmed outbreak.
“As with any outbreak, we have taken every precaution necessary to protect those that work and receive care at Guelph General Hospital.” said Karen Suk-Patrick, the hospital’s vice-president of people, strategy and community, in a statement to the Guelph Mercury.
The following measures have been implemented on the impacted unit:
Enhanced cleaning.
Masks are required.
Patient admission has been paused, and transfers from the unit to others, aside from to the Intensive Care Unit and Step Down Unit, are not permitted.
Visitors are not permitted, except on compassionate grounds. More details are available online.
No student groups or volunteers are permitted.
Masking stations remain at the main entrance to the hospital and at nursing stations, and recycling stations for personal protective equipment can be found throughout the building.
“We also continue to encourage everyone to practice good hand hygiene, wear personal protective equipment and maintain physical distancing when possible,” said Suk-Patrick.
