South Kivu: 68 monkeypox patients share 17 beds in Kavumu - Published July 29, 2024In total, 68 monkeypox patients share 17 beds at the Kavumu Hospital Center (CH) in Kabare territory (South Kivu). The civil society of Kavumu, which is warning about this situation, fears a large-scale spread due to lack of adequate support. In a press release on Sunday, July 28, 2024, Justin Mulindagabo, president of the civil society of Bugorhe-Kavumu, emphasizes that this health structure requires urgent support for better care of monkeypox patients. He reports that new cases are recorded almost every day in this health zone. "We need urgent support. Otherwise, Kavumu risks exploding with monkeypox disease. At the Kavumu Hospital, patients are lacking space. We have identified 68 patients sharing 17 beds, this is abnormal," he said. Furthermore, he calls on the population to respect hygiene measures and to avoid prayer rooms in case of presence of signs of this disease. For the moment, the Miti Murhesa Health Zone has already recorded more than 100 cases of monkeypox in less than two months.
